SIG joins FSC General Assembly as Green Sponsor

SIG sponsorship to enable subsidies for GA attendance

SIG is Green Sponsor of FSC GA

Bonn, 22 September 2017.

SIG, one of the world’s leading solution providers for the food and beverage industry within the field of carton packs and filling technology, is now the General Assembly’s exclusive ‘green’ sponsor – the top category of sponsorship for the FSC General Assembly 2017.

The sponsorship funds that SIG is dedicating to the FSC General Assembly 2017 will allow the attendance of FSC members who otherwise may not have the resources required to attend the assembly and exercise their membership rights.

“We are thankful to have SIG as our Green Sponsor for the GA this year. SIG’s generous contribution will help make a difference especially to those members whose attendance is crucial but who might otherwise not have the capacity to do so”, says Kim Carstensen, Director General of FSC.

Rolf Stangl, CEO of SIG: “Safeguarding the planet’s forests is a key corporate goal for us. We believe the FSC certification system is the most credible and most widely accepted system for sustainable forest management. As the FSC General Assembly is the top platform for making the big decisions to shape the future of FSC, we are proud to help members be there and take these decisions“.

FSC General Assembly: The Top Platform for Decision-Making in FSC

From 8 to 13 October 2017, members will gather in Vancouver, Canada, for the 8th FSC General Assembly. As FSC’s highest decision making body, the General Assembly (GA) sets the direction of the organization for the coming years, with several important areas of responsible forest management, conservation and sustainability on the agenda. During the General Assembly, members will discuss and vote on motions that shape the way FSC is run and also map the future course of the responsible management of the world’s forests.

SIG: An Early Adopter of FSC Certification

SIG has been committed to and engaged with FSC for many years. Since 2009, SIG has led the industry in providing FSC-certified carton packs that can be traced back to source. In 2016, SIG was the first carton provider to secure a sufficient supply of FSC-certified liquid packaging board, guaranteeing its customers the choice of including the FSC label on any of its cartons.

With the proportion of SIG packs carrying the FSC label almost doubling over the last 18 months (from 42 per cent in 2015 to more than 80 per cent in September 2017), this is a choice that more and more customers want to make. More than 60 billion SIG packs have now been sold with the FSC label, showing how responsible sourcing is supporting sales.
