Operating inside Customary & Constitutional tenure overlaps

Room: SPB 2

An extensive study has been underway throughout 2016 to try to understand the roots of the ongoing conflicts between the Mapuche and the Chilean forest industry, and to understand FSC´s role in alleviating the situation and carrying out meaningful certification.

Currently FSC faces serious credibility risks in Chile if it does not develop fair solutions for the Mapuche People, in adherence with the letter of the Principles & Criteria. In this side event, the study´s results will be presented and discussed with a view to identifying the next steps that FSC should take in response to the study in order to improve FSC´s strategic objective of better understanding, respecting & upholding indigenous rights in Chile and worldwide.
