Vancouver: It’s so much more than a city

Vancouver, the location for the 2017 FSC GA, is a city filled with diverse people, an even greater diversity of activities, and feasts for not only your eyes, but your taste buds too.

Nestled between the North Shore Mountains and the Pacific Ocean, Vancouver is easily one of the world’s most picturesque cities. However, it also boasts one of the world’s most diverse city populations, with 40% of residents having immigrated from elsewhere.

A myriad of activities

If you enjoy outdoor sports and activities, Vancouver should be on your list of cities to visit. Where else could you ski, golf, bike, sail and kayak all in the same day? And to top it off, not only is Stanley Park larger than Central Park in New York, it contains around half a million trees!

If laid-back long walks are more up your alley, take a stroll along the coastline, where you might be lucky enough to glimpse a pod of dolphins or even a whale.

A foodie’s delight

Don’t let the name fool you, the California roll (a staple in any sushi meal) was born in Vancouver, and if you’d like to sample a true original, you can visit Chef Hidekazu Tojo at his world famous restaurant.

From food trucks to rows of pastries at the Granville Island Market, there is something for even the choosiest of foodies to enjoy!

The FSC GA is bound to be filled with exciting discussions and decisions that will shape the future of forestry. We are very excited to be hosted by such a diverse city, and we look forward to welcoming you!
